Fiber
Here at Clear Mountain Alpacas, we raise our alpacas for their luxurious
fiber. Once reserved for Incan royalty, the soft fiber
produced by our alpacas is harvested once each year
during Spring shearing
without causing any injury to the alpaca.
Alpaca fiber
is a green, renewable resource that comes in twenty-two
NATURAL colors - the most colors of any natural fiber.
Alpaca fiber is:
Because alpaca fiber is lanolin-free, it
is considered hypoallergenic and can be spun directly
from the shorn fleece without scouring.
Like other natural fibers, alpaca fiber
can be easily dyed to produce a rainbow of colors making
alpaca fiber sought after by hand spinners and fiber
artists throughout the world. Alpacas are shorn once a year, typically in the month of May. Then, the fleece is skirted and sorted. Decisions can then be made as to what products can be made from it.
